The Dean Family

Samuel & Ebony.

Hello my name is Samuel & I am a really lovely red & white male Basenji. I was born on the 1st September 2002 & thought to be the little one in my litter of brothers & sisters. I was adopted into my new home (The Deans) in December 2002, Dad (Keith) Mum (Janelle) my new sister (Michelle) & Brother (Jamie) picked me up from the North Coast and drove me all the way to my new home in Tanah Merah, my new mum cuddled me all the way home she was very nice and I knew I was in for a good life. My first night was one off the unknown being in a strange new place and I am sure my new family were ready to send me packing, but I learnt very early that it was easy to become the centre of attention and this family wanted me to stay.I get heaps of hugs, pats and love playing in the backyard doing the Basenji 500, running up and down the fence line chasing my friends on the other side of the fence and even chasing dad around the backyard, I am fast and dad has a lot of trouble trying to get me. My new sister comes out and sits me on her lap then reads stories to me, she also puts me on the quad bike and pretends to drive me around, we also go for walks and I growl and show the other dogs that I am tough and do not come here looking for trouble. Life is good at the Dean household I have carboard box's under a nice shady pergola that have soft towels for me to sleep in during the day, I have a nice kennel that I sleep in at night (under the pergola), I even get past mum sometimes when she opens the back door, when I am inside I run around, jump on things, get into the socks throwing them all over the place & if anyone is still in bed I will soon get them out by jumping, rolling and even nipping them so they will get out of bed to play with me. A few years ago I hurt my back leg by running up and down the fence line chasing my other friends, mum and dad took me to the vet and he said that I was like a netball player (whats that?)and had done a ligament and needed an operation to fix, I was scared because the family left me with this strange person, I got very sleepy and when I woke up I could not walk and my back leg hurt and was heavy, I looked down and I had this big white thing on my leg.I was glad to see mum came back to get me, I did not like this place at all, I spent the next 2-3 weeks just being lazy until they took me back to the vet again and they took this heavy thing off me, I was able to walk normally again (so I thought) after a few months of hard work I was back to around 90% better. What a great life I have.

September 2008 and my whole world came crashing down, the family lifestyle was to change, Mum, Dad, Michelle & Jamie came home one night with another Basenji, she was a black & white female, I was told that she was only going to be here for a week or two so I had to look after her and show her around. I did not like this as she was pushy, snarly and got most of the attention and she was in my space (not happy Jan), she was eating my food, sleeping in my bed and just being a pest, but as she was only staying for a while I would get on with her for the families sake. Then after the 2 weeks are up dad is in the shed, sawing, screwing and hammering doing something, I put my head into the shed to get a look and maybe a pat from dad, he is building something, not sure what. Then around 4pm he comes out with this box thing, sets it up next to my bedroom, puts a new bed into it and I think Dad has built me a new bedroom but I soon find out that the family has decided to keep this black & white pest and the new bed was not mine, boy did I go and sulk in the corner. all I heard was her name being called, she was put into the box, then something strange happened, mum, dad, sis & bro came over and sat next to me and all the love they had not given me in the last 2 weeks was given to me. I was boss of the back yard again. My new mate Ebony is still a pest and still is pushy when anyone comes out to pat me, she will push me out of the way to get a pat but the family now share there attention with us both but I am still No 1, I like living here even if I have to share things with the other thing. This is my story so far. Photo's in the gallery. Samuel Dean.

EBONY DEAN.

Gidday my name is Ebony I am a black & white female Basenji, I was born in April 2006, I am not too sure of my life before becoming a Dean. I met my new family one night when they came with this stupid red & white thing called Samuel and took me home, when I got back to this strange new place they bought out 2 bowls of food and boy was I hungry, I gulped mine down in about 2 seconds flat and then pushed this red & white thing out of the way (what a slow eater he is) and started to eat his tea as well(boy this is going to be easy) but suddenly it was taken from me and given back to that red & white thing, I did not like this at all and told them so. I heard them tell this red & white thing that I was only going to be here for a week or two, I thought this family seems like a good option how do I get to stay? Much planning and getting cute and showing that I could get on with Samuel (red & white thing) I have conned this great family into letting me stay and boy was that a smart move. I now have the time of my life playing the Basenji 500 with Samuel (he is slower) jumping up onto things (Samuel can not jump), beating this red & white thing around the place, sleeping in his bed, chasing the balls when the kids are out playing with them, bounding all over the family and I am the queen of the backyard (Samuel thinks he is king) dad even built me a new bedroom and it is bigger than that red & white mutt's! A few weeks ago I think I went a little far with annoying Samuel as we had a big tiff, now I do not push too far and let him think he is the boss, even to the point I will roll over on my back and let him stand over me (just keeping the peace) we have grown fond off each other, we still have little tiffs every now and then but nothing to bad. I love being around this family and think I have proved I can be as cute and lovable as the red & white mutt (Samuel)the walks are great and I do not mind sharing the love, even my brother (Jamie) is showing a lot of love towards us both. I am a talker and suprised myself & everyone else when I went woof (what was that) the other night, I am sure there are a few more suprises to come. Will that is my life so far in becoming Ebony Dean. PS have a look at the cute me in the photo gallery.
